BERKELEY CITY COUNCIL ENDORSES FERRY TERMINAL

On November 17, 2009, the Berkeley City Council voted 7-2 to support a new ferry terminal to be located at Seawall Drive in the Berkeley Marina. WETA will next complete environmental reports and begin to finalize design plans for the new ferry terminal.

The Berkeley City Council endorsement is another important step forward for the project as WETA continues its public mandate to operate and expand environmentally responsible water transit that contributes to regional mobility and enhances the emergency response capacity of the Bay Area.

Gemini, the first WETA ferry and the most environmentally friendly passenger vessel ever put into service on the San Francisco Bay, received recognition at the International WorkBoat Show as one of the 10 Most Significant Boats of 2009.

Gemini’s sister vessel Pisces is also in service transiting commuters across the Bay, while the 199-passenger capacity Scorpio is slated to enter service in January 2010.
